CRC Recommends Reduced Public Participation in Los Alamos Government
Recently, the County Council's Charter Review Committee delivered its final report to the council (it is available here). This report advocates changes to our county's governing document that will further concentrate authority in the County Council while rendering checks on that power through citizen petitions (initiative, referendum, and recall) more difficult to exercise. As advocates for effective citizen participation in local government we are dissapointed that the CRC has decided to go in the opposite direction. We encourage those who seek opportunities for meaningful citizen input to join us in resisting changes that undermine public participation our local government.
